Traffic regulations
- Blood/alcohol limit: absolute alcohol ban (0.0‰) when driving, cycling or as a motorcycle passenger
- Helmets compulsory for cyclists under 16
- Seat belts compulsory
- Use of mobile phones while driving only permitted with hands-free apparatus
- Cars must also be driven with dipped headlights both in and outside built-up areas during the day
- Car drivers must wear fluorescent warning vests if they leave their vehicles while outside a built-up area and stop on the carriageway, either because of a breakdown or accident
Speed limits
- Built-up areas: 50 km/h
- Motorways: 130 km/h
- Dual carriageways: 110 km/h
- Main roads: 90 km/h
- With trailers anywhere outside built-up areas: 80 km/h
N.B.: Drivers who have held a driving licence for less than two years must not exceed the following speed limits:
- Motorways: 110 km/h
- Dual carriageways: 100 km/h
- Main roads: 80 km/h
